4.8" Fossil Leaf (Cedrelospermum & Cardiospermum) Plate - Utah
This is a 4.8" wide slab of shale containing three fossil leaves. The smallest (center) is a ballon vine leaf of the species Cardiospermum coloradensis, preserved alongside two Cedrelospermum nervosum leaves; a species of plant classified within the Ulmaceae family, which includes modern trees like elm and hackberry. This specimen was collected from the Green River Formation in Utah.
Comes with an acrylic display stand. The backside of this plate contains a fossil sumac leaf (Rhus nigricans) and several flies (order Diptera).
While the Green River Formation is best known for its fish fossils from Wyoming, other areas produce incredible plant fossils.
