Two Fossil Leaves (Zizyphoides & Davidia) - Montana

These are two fossil leaves (Davidia antiqua and Zizyphoides flabellum) from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. This specimen is quite special because one leaf is on one side of the rock and the other is on the reverse. The Davidia leaf is 3.5" long and the Zizyphoides leaf is 2.7" wide. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaves can be seen in good relief. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaves where pieces of them flaked onto the negative during collection.

This specimen includes an acrylic display stand.

#1 - Zizyphoides flabellum (.8" wide)
#5 - Davidia antiqua (3.5" long)
