8.8" Wide Plate with Five Fossil Leaves - Montana
These are five fossil leaves from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. The rock contains two Davidia antiqua leaves (#1), a Hamamelites inaequalis leaf (#19) and two Sassafras sp. leaves that are somewhat overlapping each other. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaf can be seen in good relief. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaves where pieces of them flaked onto the negative during collection.
This specimen includes an acrylic/metal display stand.
#1 - Zizyphoides flabellum (2.5" & 4.1" wide)
#19 - Hamamelites inaequalis (4.2" long)
#38 - Sassafras sp. (1.9" & 2.15" long)
