.32" Detailed Fossil Fly (Plecia) With Pos/Neg - France
This is a nicely preserved fossil fly (order Diptera) of the genus Plecia, collected from an Oligocene-aged shale deposit near Cereste in Southern France. It measures .32" long and shows leg, wing, and body preservation. Both halves of the split are present on this specimen, with one half glued to the largest slab of shale.
This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from multiple localities around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
