2.4" Fossil Leaf (Populus) - Green River Formation, Utah
This is a fossil leaf plate from the Green River Formation, Utah. It features a beautiful 2.4" poplar (Populus wilmattae) leaf with nice detail preservation. The genus Populus includes poplars, cottonwoods, and quaking aspens: this leaf closest resembles cottonwood leaves.
While the Green River Formation is best known for its fish fossils from Wyoming, other areas produce incredible plant fossils.
