5.1" Fossil Fern (Sphenopteris) Plate - Pottsville Formation, Alabama
This is a beautiful 1.8" fossil fern (Sphenopteris) frond, from the Pottsville Formation, Alabama. This beautiful specimen contains sections of four leaflets of the frond. The top of the leaflet is so well preserved, it still shows venation. This specimen also contains a number of other unidentified plant fossils.
Sphenopteris is a genus of seed fern that contains a number of extinct species of fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns.
Comes with an acrylic stand.
