This is a beautiful piece of Yavapai travertine from Arizona that has been polished into an abstract bison shape. This specimen measures 2.2 inches long and its glossy polish allows the travertine (aragonite) bands to stand out.
The base has been cut flat so it stands up nicely on a hard surface.

Yavapai travertine, also known as Spirit Stone, is the name of a stone collected near Mayer, Arizona. It's formed when water pressure is released, causing water to evaporate and calcium carbonate to settle, creating the mineral aragonite.
