2.15" Polished Seftonite (Bloodstone/Heliotrope) Bison - Africa
This is a beautiful piece of seftonite (also known as bloodstone and heliotrope) from South Africa that has been polished into an abstract bison shape. This specimen measures 2.15 inches long and its glossy polish allows the colorful inclusions within the chalcedony to be seen.
The base has been cut flat so it stands up nicely on a hard surface.

Bloodstone, also known as heliotrope and seftonite, is a type of mineral aggregate composed of chalcedony and dark green jasper with red spots. The dark green color is caused by chlorite, amphibole, and/or pyroxene inclusions within the chalcedony, while the red spots are due to iron or even jasper inclusions within the chalcedony.
Most bloodstone is mined from India, though there are significant deposits in Australia, Brazil, China, Africa, and Madagascar. Bloodstone forms at shallow depths and low temperatures by precipitation from silica-rich groundwaters into fractures and cavities.
