2.4" Carved Bird's Eye Jasper (Orbicular Rhyolite) Turtle - Mexico

This is a beautiful polished turtle sculpture made from a kind of orbicular rhyolite known as Bird's Eye Jasper. The intricate circular formations and natural coloration really makes for an alluring specimen. This little guy measures 2.4 inches long and is polished to a glossy finish.

Bird's Eye jasper is not a true jasper but a type of rhyolite, a silica-rich extrusive volcanic rock produced in pyroclastic eruptions. As this particular rhyolite was formed, it interacted with other minerals to form brightly colored oval or rounded shapes, often in shades of red, pink, yellow, or purple. They are thought to look like birds' eyes, hence the name.
