6.5" Polished Bird's Eye Jasper (Rhyolite) Stand-Up - Mexico
This is a 6.5" wide polished section of spherulitic Bird's Eye Jasper (rhyolite) collected from Mexico. It has been cut flat and flawlessly polished to a glossy finish on one side. The base of the stone has been cut flat for free-standing presentation.
Bird's Eye jasper is not a true jasper but a type of rhyolite, a silica-rich extrusive volcanic rock produced in pyroclastic eruptions. As this particular rhyolite was formed, it interacted with other minerals to form brightly colored oval or rounded shapes, often in shades of red, pink, yellow, or purple. They are thought to look like birds' eyes, hence the name.
