Oligocene-Aged Fossil Seed Bug (Aphanus) with Fly (Diptera) - France

This piece of shale contains a fossil seed bug (order Hemiptera, family Lygaeidae) and fly (order Diptera), collected from an Oligocene-aged shale deposit near Cereste in southern France. The fly measures .52" wide (including appendages) and has nice preservation detail.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.
