Gorgeous, 9.6" Pennsylvanian Fern (Alethopteris) Plate - Kentucky

This is a fossil seed fern (Alethopteris) plate with excellent preservation, from the Breathitt Formation, Leslie County, Kentucky. It comes from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests that formed the coal shales of Kentucky and Ohio.

Alethopteris is an extinct genus of seed fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
