This is a 8.8" wide fossil flora plate, collected from the Breathitt Formation of Leslie County, Kentucky. It includes faint impressions of Sphenopteris sp.(?) leaves.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
Sphenopteris are a genus of extinct tree ferns that grew in abundance during the Pennsylvanian Period of the Carboniferous. Unlike modern ferns that reproduce via spores,
these ferns and many others reproduced via seeds.
