11.8" Wide Plate with Two Fossil Leaves (Two Species) - Montana

These are two fossil leaves from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. The plate consists of one leaf of the species Macginitiea sp. and Davidia antiqua. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaves can be seen in good relief. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaves where pieces of them flaked onto the negative during collection. The sycamore leaf has some restoration work, and may be incomplete: it is displayed as a three-lobed M. nobilis, but a seam is visible that could be covering additional lobes.

This specimen includes a metal display stand.

From smallest to largest:

#5 - Davidia antiqua (3.95" long)
#37 - Macginitiea sp. (9.35 x 8.7")
