5.1" Plate with Two Fossil Leaves (Cissites) - Montana
These are two fossil leaves from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. Both are of the species Cissites rocklandensis. The larger measures 3.3" long, and the smaller measures 2.2" long. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaves can be seen in good relief. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaves where pieces of them flaked onto the negative during collection.
