.35" Fossil Fly (Diptera) - Green River Formation, Utah

This is a fossil fly (order Diptera) from the Eocene-age Green River Formation in Utah. It's .35" wide (including wings) and shows quite a bit of detail under magnification. While this formation is best known for well preserved fossil fish found in Wyoming other sections of the formation contain a very diverse insect fauna. What appears to be a seed pod accompanies the fly on the rock.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
