Amazing, .29" Fossil Fly (Diptera)- Green River Formation, Utah

This is an amazingly preserved .29" fossil Fly (Diptera) from the Green River Formation, Uintah County, Utah. This specimen shows remarkable preservation down to the guard hairs on the body. Under magnification this fly really stands out.

While this formation is best known for well preserved fossil fish found in Wyoming, other sections of the formation contain a very diverse insect fauna.
