.22" Female Fossil Fly (Plecia) - Bois d’Asson, France

This is a female fossil fly (Plecia sp.) collected from the Oligocene-aged deposits of Bois d'Asson, France. The dark-brown preservation contrasts nicely against rock.

This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from multiple localities around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.
