.21" Fossil Seed Bug (Aphanus) & Fly (Diptera) - France

This is a fossil seed bug of the genus Aphanus (order Hemiptera, family Lygaeidae), collected from an Oligocene-aged shale deposit near Cereste in Southern France. It measures .21" long and has nice preservation detail. There is a second insect (order Diptera?) along one edge of the rock.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.
