2" Fossil "False" Saber-Toothed Cat (Nimravus) Tooth - France
This is a tooth from Nimravus intermedius, an extinct species of "false" saber-toothed cats. It was collected from the Upper Oligocene Garouillas Group in France. Much of the fine detail of this tooth has weathered away and the tip is broken.
The genus Nimravus appears in North America and Europe through the Oligocene Epoch. While these cat-like carnivorans resembled saber-toothed cats in both their appearance and evolution, they're not closely related.
