12" Fossil Costapalmate (Sabalites) Frond From France - Rare!

Because of their delicate structure, complete fossil palm fronds are very rare and are thus highly prized for their elegant beauty. This 12" long costapalmate frond is nearly complete and was collected from an Oligocene-aged deposit in Bois d'Asson, France. The dark brown-orange preservation of the palm contrasts nicely against the cream-colored rock. It's nicely centered on the thick slab of rock that measures 16 x 9.5".

Comes with a metal display stand.

There is a repaired crack through the rock which required some gap fill and touchup restoration of the frond.
