1.7" Asaphus Kowalewskii Trilobite With Brachiopod - Russia

This is a 1.7" long (including eye stalks), stalk-eyed trilobite Asaphus kowalewskii. It is Middle Ordovician in age and was collected at the Vilpovitsy quarry in the St. Petersburg region of Russia. The stalk eyes likely allowed to survey it's surroundings while remaining buried in the mud.

There is a brachiopod hitchhiking on the upper thorax of the trilobite. Like nearly all of the asaphid trilobites from these quarries there is some shell restoration. There is some restoration to the right hand side segments near the tail and the occipital ring.
