This is a gorgeous, .9" wide Ethiopian chocolate opal nodule from the Mezezo Opal Occurrence in Ethiopia. These opal nodules exhibit eye-catching flash and have been split and polished to a glossy finish. This specimen features a dancing play of color that flitters between purple, red, orange, and green. Pictures simply can't do justice to the beauty of this opal.

It is accompanied by an acrylic display case.

Ethiopian chocolate opal is a nodular form of opal discovered in the 1990s. They form within a roughly 10-foot-thick layer of volcanic ash on the northern side of Yita Ridge in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. These nodules are known for their chocolate-like coloration and exceptional color play, though only a small percentage of these nodules actual display opalescence. Red and orange are the most common colors seen: blue is quite rare. Specimens with a complete color spectrum are understandably considered to be the highest quality of Ethiopian chocolate opal.
