7" Banded Zebra Calcite Dish - Mexico
This is a 7" wide banded zebra calcite dish. Zebra calcite may also be referred to as Raw Phantom Calcite, but both names point to the same mineral. This specimen features a field of golden calcite/aragonite interlaced with black and brown banding. It makes an excellent display piece and a great vessel for other items. The texture of these dishes is quite unique and enjoyable in the hands.
About Zebra Calcite
Zebra calcite is a banded formation of calcite/aragonite that comes out of Mexico. It can also be found on the market labeled as "banded aragonite", "zebra aragonite", and "phantom banded calcite". It often features alternating layers of white, black, brown, and golden yellow calcite. The color changes are a result of layered deposition in which different impurities resulted in varied coloration over time.
