6.8" Polished Bloodstone (Heliotrope) Slab
This is a polished slab of bloodstone, collected from Africa. It is 6.8" wide and is accompanied by an acrylic display stand.
Bloodstone, also known as heliotrope and seftonite, is a type of mineral aggregate composed of chalcedony and dark green jasper with red spots. The dark green color is caused by chlorite, amphibole, and/or pyroxene inclusions within the chalcedony, while the red spots are due to iron or even jasper inclusions within the chalcedony.
Most bloodstone is mined from India, though there are significant deposits in Australia, Brazil, China, Africa, and Madagascar. Bloodstone forms at shallow depths and low temperatures by precipitation from silica-rich groundwaters into fractures and cavities.
