About Atlantisite
Atlantisite, first discovered in Tasmania, is a unique mineral composed of green serpentine and bright purple stichtite. While often mistaken for Tasmanite, a different mineral from the same region, atlantisite’s distinct appearance comes from the combination of serpentine, a brownish-green phyllosilicate mineral named for its snake-like coloring, and stichtite, a vivid pinkish-purple mineral named after Robert Carl Sticht, a copper mine owner in Tasmania who was active when stichtite was first described in 1910. Named after the legendary city of Atlantis, atlantisite captures an otherworldly aesthetic with its striking inclusions of stichtite within the serpentine matrix.
