4.85" Polished Pink Potato (Dulcote) Agate Bear - South Africa

This is a really cool, 4.85" wide polished bear sculpted from banded pink potato (dulcote) agate collected from Dulcote Quarry in Somerset, England. The polish work on this specimen is second to none with none of the scuff marks or dull areas like those found on lesser quality material. The base has been cut flat so it stands up nicely on a hard surface.

There are a couple repaired cracks through this specimen which have been reflected in the price.

Potato agate, also known as Dulcote agate, is a unique and unusual kind of agate from the Dulcote quarry in the county of Somerset in England. Agate is very rare in England, so these unusual beauties are often sought after for both their rarity and striking colors. The potato part of their name comes from their quite lumpy and potato-like exteriors, unlike their gorgeous interiors. These agates often display an array of red, white, orange, and pink banding, along with occasional quartz pockets.
