This is a unique polished turtle sculpture carved from Mexican poppy jasper. This little guy measures 3.45 inches long and has been polished to a glossy finish to highlight the jasper's spherical formations.

Poppy jasper is the trade name used to described some orbicular jaspers whose patterns consist of orb or sphere shapes similar to poppy flowers. Morgan Hill, California is one of the better known locations from which poppy jasper is collected. There are four known locations of poppy jasper near the town, none of which are now being actively mined because the gemstone is found only on private property or protected lands.
