Inesite is a hydrous calcium manganese silicate mineral that is considered to be fairly uncommon. It typically forms in dense, fibrous aggregations of attractive crystals that range from light pink to rose-red in color. In rare cases, these crystals can form in a globular or botryoidal habit. There are several known localities where inesite can be found, including the Hilfe Gottes mine in Germany (type locality), South Africa, Australia, Sweden, Japan, USA (California), and the Fengjishan mine (Daye copper mine) in China.
