Massive 8" Isotelus Trilobite - New York
This is an absolutely massive, Isotelus gigas trilobite from the Sugar River Formation in New York. Unfortunately it's missing a corner of it's tail and would have been just over 8 inches long if complete. There are only a handful of types of trilobites that can reach this gigantic size.
I found this specimen several years ago in a limestone stream bank and at the time it was the largest trilobite I had personally found. The corner of the tail was unfortunately running off the rock. The specimen has been repaired, but no restoration work was done to it.
The limestone matrix it is on is, 12x8" and about 1 1/2" thick.
The last photo in a set it the trilobite as found in the field.
