Large Spiny Comura Trilobite - Awesome Eyes!

At 3.1" long this is a very large specimen of the spiny trilobite Comura bultyncki. This trilobite from the Tazoulait Formation is one of the most impressive trilobites in the world due to it's extremely spiny exoskeleton. There is over 40 free standing spines on this specimen. The preparation on a trilobite such as this would have taken on the order of 40-50 hours by a very skilled preparator using low pressure air abrasives to slowly remove the limestone, little by little.

Unlike many of the Comura's being sold, the spines on this one are real. The eye detail in this specimen is exceptional. The only restoration is some minor shell touchups of surface scratches from preparation and a single spine has been reconstructed.
