Large 4.95" Drotops Trilobite
At large, 4.95" specimen of the trilobite Drotops megalomanicus. The quality of preservation and preparation on this specimen is very nice. I really like the multi-toned shell coloration of the Drotops trilobites from this location, and find in more aesthetically appealing than the ones with a solid black shell.
All of the tubercles, bumps and eye facets can easily be seen. The matrix surrounding it has been prepared so that it it perched on a pedestal of limestone with the hypostome visible underneath. This specimen has almost no shell restoration, just a tiny patch near the tail <1%.

How a Drotops might be found in the field, with part of the tail exposed in the broken rock. It would then be prepared using airscribes and air abrasives a process that would likely take 20+ hours for a good specimen..
