Giant Enrolled Drotops Megalomanicus Trilobite
This is an enrolled specimen of the trilobite Drotops megalomanicus sometimes incorrectly called a Phacops. Trilobites enrolled for defensive purposes similar to todays, "pill bugs".
One of the most striking features of this trilobites is the large schizochroal (multi-faceted) eyes which would have given it a nearly 360 degree field of vision. It also has a very bumpy exoskeleton, in particularly on it's head.
The enrolled trilobite is 2 1/2 inches wide and would be close to 5 inches long if fully outstretched. It has been prepared so that it rests, free-standing on a pillar of matrix. There is some shell restoration along a few repaired cracks and the axis above the tail.
