Fossil Samara (Winged Seed) - Green River Formation, Utah

This is a beautifully preserved .3" fossil winged seed pod from the Green River Formation, Uintah County, Utah. Preservation of this specimen is excellent and shows the veins in the wing and shape of the seed. There is also a faint impression of an unknown insect probably a beetle.

While this formation is best known for well preserved fossil fish found in Wyoming, other sections of the formation contain a very diverse insect fauna.
