Pennsylvanian Fossil Ferns (Lyginopteris And Neuropteris) - Alabama
This is two fossil ferns, one .8" Lyginopteris and one .5" Neuropteris, from the Pottsville Formation, Alabama. The Lyginopteris has a leaflet with a wavy edge, while Neuropteris leaflets are straight edged and have more distinct venation.
Lyginopteris and Neuropteris are genera of seed fern, extinct species of fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns.
