Double Arctinurus From Caleb's Quarry - Museum Piece
This is a true museum piece, a double Arctinurus boltoni from the famous Caleb's Quarry near Middleport, NY. Doubles of this rare trilobite are almost unheard of and this example has been preserved and prepared to perfection. At 5.1" long the larger trilobite is good size for the species. It has very minimal shell restoration compared to other Arctinurus specimens (they all have some).
I've been told that this very specimen is being featured in a book on the Rochester Shale which is currently in editing and will be published this next spring. Furthermore it appears that Caleb's Quarry will only be operating for another season or two, so it's likely that material from the Rochester Shale will become much harder to come by in the future.
This is one of the most spectacular Arctinurus pieces ever found and could be the centerpiece of any trilobite collection or museum.
