2.8" Ordovician Starfish (Petraster?) Fossil - Morocco
This is a 2" wide, Ordovician aged starfish of the genus Petraster. It comes from the Tioririne Formation near Blekus, Morocco. The specimen shows an amazing amount of detail and the natural, orange coloration is due to the oxidization of iron pyrite.
It appears that some of the detail of this starfish broke off on the opposite side of the rock when found. This spot looks to have been painted over, hence the reduced price. There is a partial trilobite tail impression towards the edge of the rock.
