9.2" Carboniferous Fossil Fern (Odontopteris) - France

This is a fossil fern (Odontopteris sp.) from the Late Carboniferous-aged Montceau-les-Mines Lagerstatte of France. This formation is Stephanian Stage in age, or approximately 300 million years old. The fern measures 9.2" long and is nicely centered on a rectangular-cut, 9.4 x 4.3" thick slab of rock.

Most of the carbon film is missing on the leaves, however the intricate details can still be seen. Amazingly, the frond is still naturally associated with its stalk. Comes with an acrylic display stand.
