8" Fossil Fern (Sphenopteris) Plate - Alabama

This is an amazing, fossil fern (Sphenopteris) plate, from the Pottsville Formation, Alabama. It has leaflets and branches, some of which are so well preserved that plant material remains. They are so well preserved, venation is still visible in the leaves.

Sphenopterous is genus of seed fern that contain extinct species of fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns.

Comes with an acrylic stand.
