4" Ophiura Brittle Star Fossil - Morocco

This is a 4" wide Ordovician aged brittle star (Ophiura) fossil from the Kataoua Formation in Morocco. You can see a lot of detail preserved in both the arms and the body.

These starfish are typically heavily restored and many times just painted onto the rock. In the case of this specimen, the ends of several arms were originally restored, but we removed the restoration as the specimen looks better in a more natural state. \
