4.1" Jurassic Fossil Pliosaur (Stretosaurus) Vertebra - England
This is a beautifully preserved, 4.1" wide vertebra centrum of the giant pliosaur, Stretosaurus (Pliosaurus) cf. macromerus, collected from Abingdon, England. It is Upper Jurassic (Kemmeridgian stage) in age, or approximately 154 million years old. Each process has weathered away and the cortical bone is weathered in spots along both faces of the centrum.

Pliosaurus is a genus of large carnivorous marine reptile belonging to the Pliosauroidea, a clade of short-necked plesiosaurs. They were an apex predator during the Middle Jurassic period, when seas covered Europe.
