This is a .36" long beetle (order Coleoptera) elytron fossil, collected from the Oligocene-aged deposits of Bois d'Asson, France. An elytron (plural: elytra) is a hardened forewing/cover/sheath that protects the wing(s) of beetles. This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired.
It is the negative split of the elytron. It comes with an acrylic display stand.
