3.6" Huge, Early Cambrian Fallotaspis - Taroudant, Morocco
This is a very large, 3.6" long Fallotaspis from the Taroudant area of Morocco. I was able to acquire three specimens of these very rare trilobites when I was in Morocco this past fall. The Fallotaspis from Morocco are very poorly described and the ones that have been described were described off of parts so assigning them to a specific species is difficult.
This species is distinctly different from the Fallotaspis we have offered from Tazemmourt.. The spines are straight, not curved, it has a much smaller occipital spine, axial spines on all of the segments, etc.
This specimen is by far the largest of the three. It has some restoration where shell split off onto the negative and fragments for lost. Under UV about 15% of the shell lights up (potentially restored) but I suspect it's just glue fluorescing and the actual restoration is much less.
