7.5" Pennsylvanian Fossil Fern (Lygenopteris) Plate - Alabama

This is a 7.5" fossil fern (Lygenopteris) plate, from the Pottsville Formation, Alabama. This beautiful specimen is so well preserved, it still shows amazing detail in each leaflet. In addition to Lygenopteris, there is a fragment of Shenopteris, in the specimen.

Both are genera of seed fern that contains a number of extinct species of fern that reproduced from seed as opposed to sporophyte reproduction of most modern ferns.

Comes with acrylic stand.
