1.8" Pliomera Fischer Trilobite - Slemestadt, Norway
This is a rarely seen Pliomera fischer trilobite from the Huk Formation of Norway. It's 1.8" long but would probably be over 2" if its head wasn't tucked which makes it quite large. There is a small amount of restoration along the repaired crack running through the back-right side of the tail and thorax.
The Huk Formation which outcrops around Oslo produces many of the same species of trilobites better known from the St. Petersburg region of Russia but with a black shell preservation. The rock is much harder than the soft, creme colored limestone their Russian counterparts are found in making them much harder to collect and prepare.
We have only been able to offer a handful of Norwegian trilobites in the past and this is only the second Pliomera I've had in seven years.
