Pyrolusite Spray In Quartz Geode - Exceptional Specimen
This is a phenomenal specimen of metallic Pyrolusite inside of a quartz geode. The entire specimen is 3.7x2.4" and the largest quartz crystal is 1.5" long. The Pyrolusite forms a dark grey spray in between the quartz crystals. The fine needles of Pyrolusite are topped by clear crystals of an unidentified mineral. Many of the quartz crystals also have Pyrolusite inclusions inside of them.
Pyrolusite is a mineral consisting essentially of manganese dioxide (MnO2) and is important as an ore of manganese. It is a black, amorphous appearing mineral, often with a granular, fibrous or columnar structure, sometimes forming reniform crusts.
