This is an absolutely massive smoky quartz crystal that was collected from Minas Gerais, Brazil. It measures in at a whopping 24.5" long by 8.5" wide at the base, and has gorgeous smoky coloration. It sits within a sturdy, custom metal display base that gives the specimen an overall height of 33.6". The crystal itself weighs just under 86 lbs, with the base weighing in at 12 lbs. This is a truly magnificent specimen that would surely make a wonderful addition to any collection!

Four of the sides (body) have been polished, while two have been left in their raw state. The upper facets have all been polished to a glossy finish with a pristine termination.

Smoky quartz is a grey-brown to black variety of quartz. This common name is derived from the appearance of smoke within the quartz crystal. Depending on the location and the chemicals present during formation, smoky quartz can appear opaque black, but it is typically translucent to some extent. It is believed that the quartz gains this color from a combination of natural irradiation and aluminum impurities.
