Massive, 14.5" Wide Quartz Crystal Cluster - Large Crystals!

This is an absolutely massive cluster of quartz crystals from Minas Gerais, Brazil. The crystals are relatively large and have wonderful clarity throughout. Some of the facets have undergone polishing, however the majority are natural and untouched. Damage to the crystal terminations is minimal and primarily found in the form of some minor chipping, with the typical damage along the periphery of the cluster where it was extracted from the mine. The cluster weighs just over 51 lbs and sits upright nicely on a flat surface, allowing for aesthetic presentation without the need for a display stand. A truly breathtaking specimen that would make for a beautiful display piece.

Quartz is the name given to silicon dioxide (SiO2) and is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. Quartz crystals generally grow in silica-rich environments--usually igneous rocks or hydrothermal environments like geothermal waters--at temperatures between 100°C and 450°C, and usually under very high pressure. In either case, crystals will precipitate as temperatures cool, just as ice gradually forms when water freezes. Quartz veins are formed when open fissures are filled with hot water during the closing stages of mountain formation: these veins can be hundreds of millions of years old.
