This is a beautiful, .38" long "floater" crystal of ruby from the Kiteto District in the Manyara Region, Tanzania. These rubies form naturally within a hard matrix from which they have been completely removed. It bears a deep magenta coloration and is opaque. Under shortwave UV light, the crystal exhibits a vibrant red-pink fluorescence.

It comes with an acrylic display case.

Ruby is a variety of corundum distinguished for its bright red color, which often varies from pinkish-red to a deeper blood-red. It is one of the most popular gemstones for both its alluring color and hardness--9 on the Mohs hardness scale--making it suitable for nearly all types of jewelry. Sapphire is chemically identical to ruby, but encompasses the remaining colors, though mainly blue.
