3.6" Dragon Scale Stone (Iron, Manganese, Siderite Nodule)

Dragon scale stone is the trade name of this type of iron nodule found in the Hell Creek Formation of North Dakota. They are found alongside dinosaur bones throughout the Hell Creek deposits, often lying next to dinosaur remains. Despite their name, these stones have nothing to do with dragons aside from their unique polygonal patterning, reminiscent of dragon scales. Their composition is primarily iron oxide with a siderite core and manganese/iron oxides that give them their dark red-brown patina.

This specimen measures 3.6" wide and is accompanied by an acrylic display stand.
